if you’ll be my body guard, i can be your long lost pal
My name is Katie. According to the government, it’s actually Kaitlin Rosemary, and according to the baptism announcement it’s Kaitlin Tosemary, but if you call me either of those it’ll take me a few seconds to realise you’re talking to me.
I’m currently a Biological Sciences student with a nerd complex - if you get me started about Greek mythology, Lord of the Rings, feminism, Elizabeth I, calculus, French, gay rights, food, biology, Harry Potter, religion, sexual education, American politics, punctuation, or pretty much anything, I’ll likely not stop ranting happily away about the topic until you walk away due to boredom. Other labels that I somewhat comfortably apply to myself are ‘feminist’, ‘girlfriend’, ‘singer’, ‘gay’ (although if you call me a lesbian I might get slightly pissed), and ‘grammar freak’.

I was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland (that’s in Canada for you geographically-challenged buggers), and moved almost all the way across the country when I was four because of my dad’s work. I still have a huge soft spot for the coast and wish desperately that I had some kind of accent to quantify my Newfoundlander status. I’m also a ginormous francophile and hope someday to spend at least a while living in France - preferably someplace with a boulangerie close by, so I could bike to get fresh bread every morning for my breakfast.
I also find it kind of interesting that I’ve felt more subconscious and awkward about coming out as a Weight Watchers member than I did about coming out as non-heterosexual. Life is weird sometimes.

on the coast
In high school, I was a band kid (French horn!) and a high honours student, and as a university student entering second year in the fall I’m trying to claw my way back to straight-A grades. My eventual plan is to be a doctor, hopefully specialising in oncology, because the cause is close to my heart and I hope to be able to make a difference. Who knows if that will still be the plan in four years time, but it’s nice to have some kind of goal to shoot for.
The last thing I’m going to put up here is that you should all know that I’m a huge Meryl Streep fan (although my father can’t stand her at all - he’s crazy), and I also love k.d. lang, Robert Downey, Jr., Paul Simon, the Indigo Girls, Tina Fey, my girlfriend, and Barack Obama.
Cheers!
